The USS Gettysburg, Mayport, FL

Ernie so wanted to take a tour of the USS Gettysburg while we were here, so he called but found out that she was leaving port soon, hence, no tour.....Well, when we got back from his Birthday lunch, low and behold, they had her under way and heading out.  We grabbed the camera and headed to the jetty.  The photos are self-explanatory, such as the tug boats turning the ship around and guiding her out to sea, so sit back and enjoy...

Easter Sunday was a cool, but sunny day.  Had dinner at the "Galley" and then chilling....watching "The Master" on the TV and reading....Now you all are up to date...

Ernie's Birthday Lunch...

Friday, April 6th, was Ernie's 62nd Birthday....We celebrate birthdays by going out to lunch and he decided on Singletons Seafood.

He had his raw oysters and I had a fish fry.  Took photos of the shrimp fleet of Mayport, the Casino ship, and us relaxing and enjoying.

It was really nice....We then went to the store to pick up a few things and headed back to the camper...

Saturday was a total loss because of a Northeast wind event, so just battened down the hatches and spent it in the 5er reading and watching the TV.... But Ernie did get another gift for his Birthday and will post in a separate section.....which is coming up right after this....

Stay tuned....

Naval Station Mayport, 4-4&5, 2012

Yesterday and today were fun days and just doing relaxing things.  We've been fishing every morning for the last 3 days and so far, except for a couple small fish and 1 good size blue crab, which are still in the river/ocean to live another day, we haven't had much luck....so we're going to give it a day or 2 rest.  Maybe our luck will change then...

We've been taking photos of Navy ships and cargo ships.....of birds....of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean, and of sunsets....so will post them at the end of this today.

This evening we attended a Park "Pot Luck" Easter Dinner.   The park provided the ham and we campers brought side dishes and desserts.   Again I made Grandma Redington's Pepper Slaw and again it was a big hit.  A lady here even tracked me down at the camper to give praises and to ask for the recipe.  The dinner was fun.  A couple who had stayed at Ft. Stewart this last fall are here and we sat with them.  Noreen & I talked on how hard it is to find someone who can cut hair like we want and about grand-kids.  Ernie/Dock and Bob talked golf as they played alot at Ft. Stewart.

Now we've walked Spinner, did up the dishes, and have changed into PJs for the night.

Tomorrow, Andy & Gwen are driving down to visit with us for a visit and some R&R.  Hope they can stay until Sunday.  We're so excited !!!

Okay, here are the photos we took....Enjoy!!

Naval Station Mayport, 4-2 & 3, 2012

Yesterday, we just drove around the area, getting us familiar with things.  Found a Seafood market that proved to be one of the best we've ever seen. Safe Harbor Seafood.  They  also have a eatery....we'll check that out at another date.  We did get some shrimp for supper last night.  Then we got some bait for fishing and came back to the RV Park.

Today, we were up  early to do some fishing.....caught a, what we think, was a monk fish.  Too small to keep so he's back in the deep blue sea to grow bigger....but other than that, nothing to write home about or to take pictures of.....So we put the fishing poles away, cleaned up some, walked Spinner, and headed for the commissary to pick up a few things.

Got back from the store, had lunch and decided to drive down to the beach area.  Now, the beach is about a half mile away and we could have walked it, but the temp. at 82F and the humidity of 80% told us that it was a good day to ride.

Now, Ernie's taking a nap and I'm doing a couple loads of wash and typing here....
Took lots of photos, so will end today entry with them...Look closely at one of them and you'll see dolphins....
